Chapter 13

A SMALL BEGINNING

“Behold, a sower went forth to sow.” Matthew 13:3b

To those who have an “inner” spiritual ear to hear, the 13th chapter of Matthew reveals the foundational principles of the operation of the kingdom of God.

“When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom.” Matthew 13:19a

Our participation in the kingdom of God begins with our submission to the rule of the “throne” of God over our lives, and over all that pertains to us. In the realm of salvation, it can be rightly said that “I have Jesus.” In the kingdom this changes to “Now, Jesus has me.” This means that the totality of my life - all that I am and all that I have, is submitted to His kingdom rule.

“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Romans 14:17

“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” I Corinthians 4:20

“Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21

For the natural man, the “throne” that controls his life experience is a “self-centeredness” which caters to his physical needs, emotions, and desires.

For the one who has been born from above, the “self-life” that seeks to sit on the throne of their life experience, must be crucified and committed to the grave. After this, all control of our daily life experience is to be transferred to the higher “throne,” and placed under the governmental rule of the kingdom of God. Each one of us who feels this “tug” at our spirit should, in the presence of the Lord, very carefully submit unconditionally, the totality of our lives to the Lord.

To the extent that this transfer has taken place (good ground), the fruit of the kingdom (righteousness, peace, and joy) will be evident. Where there is any amount of mixture (wayside, stony places, thorns), the results are partial, and the effectual working of the power of the kingdom will be hindered and limited.

The “seed” that our Heavenly Father sows is “the Word of the kingdom.”

“When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom and understands it not, then comes the wicked one and catches away that which was sown in his heart.” Matthew 13:19a

It is important for us to notice and consider that it is impossible for this seed of the kingdom (our total submission to His governmental rule) to mature when it is sown in the wayside, stony places, or among thorns (a life where there is mixture). Any initial acceptance of the kingdom will be devoured, wither away, or it will be choked.

This seed of the kingdom can only germinate and grow in the “good ground” of the committal of our lives to the kingdom and His governmental rule.

“But he that received seed into the good ground is he that hears the word, and understands it; which also bears fruit, and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13:23

Within this seed is all that is required for our participation with Him in His coming Kingdom Millennial rule.
